Proposition
K - LA for Kids Program
Improving,
Constructing, and Maintaining City Parks, Recreation Facilities,
Childcare Centers, and
Acquiring Land For Open Space Purposes.
Proposition K (Prop K)
was passed by the City of Los Angeles voters in 1996. The
passage of Prop K created a 30 year citywide assessment district
which will generate $25,000,000 each year in funds for the
improvement, construction, and maintenance of City parks and
recreation facilities, and the acquisition of land for open
space purposes.
Under Prop K, $298,850,000
of the total amount generated was awarded to the City for
183 specified projects. Prop K also orders the allocation
of $143,650,000 over a 30-year period through an open and
competitive grant process for public agencies, City departments
and nonprofit organizations. The City Council designated the
Commission as the agency charged with administering the Prop
K competitive grant process. The Commission is responsible
for developing the Request for Proposals, evaluating and rating
submitted proposals, and recommending prospective grant recipients
to the L.A. for Kids Steering Committee and City Council,
and for monitoring the service and maintenance agreements
with funded projects.
